As a nonprofit dance school and community based performing arts company, nearly 15% of our current students dance on full and partial scholarships. We rely on generous donors to help us fund these scholarships so that we can ensure that everyone has the chance to dance.

If you are interested in helping fund a full or partial scholarship, please call us at 304-522-4230 or email us at for more details. Your generous sponsorships are vital to providing the highest quality dance education for all of our students.

In addition to our Tuition Scholarships, Huntington Dance Theatre is pleased to offer two honor scholarships as well.

The Jamez Morris-Smith Scholarship

The Jamez Morris-Smith Scholarship has been established to honor Jamez Morris-Smith of Marshall University, a lifelong dancer and supporter of HDT. Jamez was the creative mind behind the creation of our Huntington Nutcracker sets and production, in addition to the mastermind behind the lighting of every HDT show. This dance scholarship will be awarded to one Marshall University student yearly and cover all instructional and costume fees for a full academic year at HDT, with priority given to male-identifying students.

If you are interested in helping fund this scholarship in honor of Jamez, you can donate via PayPal or write a check to Huntington Dance Theatre and please list the Jamez Morris-Smith Scholarship Fund in the memo line.

The Dayna Carter Memorial Dance Scholarship

The Dayna Carter Memorial Dance Scholarship, generously managed by The Foundation of the Tri-State Community, has been created in memory of the passionate and devoted Dayna Carter. Dayna was just 56 years old when she passed away in December of 2023 after a fierce battle with cancer. Because Dayna was passionate and devoted to dance – and Huntington Dance Theatre in particular – the Foundation has established the Dayna Carter Memorial Dance Scholarship as a tribute to her. This endowment fund benefits a student at Huntington Dance Theatre that embodies the qualities of Dayna as selected by her daughters: kindness, selflessness, and resiliency. It is our hope that with its growth, her memory will live on through young dance students who are able to discover and love dance as much as Dayna did.

If you would like to remember Dayna with a contribution to this scholarship fund, checks can be written to the Foundation for the Tri-State, designating the Dayna Carter Memorial Dance Scholarship Fund in the memo line.
