Huntington Dance Theatre is proud to offer a one week dance intensive, featuring Robert Vickrey of Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre and Donald Laney, WV Dance Company, amongst a host of other instructors. Geared for career oriented students as well as those who wish to study dance for pure enjoyment, inherent benefits and appreciation of the art form. Week Long Content Classes offered to dancers of all levels, ages 7 and up. Dancers, ages 7 – 9, will have 2 classes per day, ballet daily with an HDT instructor or Mr. Vickrey and modern/jazz/hip hop on alternating days. Cost - $75.00 for the week. All other levels will have a minimum of one ballet, one modern and one hip-hop/jazz class available to them daily. Special course work may be arranged for any dancer wishing to focus on only one or two areas, at the discretion of the director. Cost - $150.00 for the week. * Need-based financial assistance available. Guest Instructors Robert Vickrey, Ballet Master – Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre Raised in the Pacific Northwest, Mr. Vickrey was trained in Seattle, Denver, New York, and San Francisco before joining the San Francisco Ballet Company. He was the first male student to receive a Ford Foundation Scholarship to the SFB School. He later joined the SFB Company, rising to the rank of principal dancer in just a few short years, dancing the works of Lew Christensen, George Balanchine, Kent Stowell, and Michael Smuin. From there he joined the Joffrey Ballet, then the Harkness Ballet, touring not only the United States, but the Soviet Union, the Near East, South America, and Japan. He also danced the works of such choreographers as Robert Joffrey, Gerald Arpino, Francisco Moncion, Brian MacDonald, Agnes DeMille, John Butler, Donald McKayle, and Alvin Ailey. In 1969 he made the transition from dancer to Ballet Master with the Harkness Ballet, and remained in that position for two years. He has directed several companies in the United States and for the past twelve years he has served as the Artistic Administrator of Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre as well as being the Assistant to the Artistic Director. He is also on the faculty of the Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre School and is the director of the School’s Open Division. Donald Laney, Modern Instructor – WV Dance Company, Co-Director Donald Laney graduated from the University, of California, Irvine, with an MFA in Dance. He is currently the co-Artistic Director of the WV Dance Company. Before entering the graduate program at UCI, Donald performed with the WV Dance Company, Houlihan & Dancers (Miami, FL), Randy James Dance Works (NYC), X-Factor (NC), and the Charleston Ballet. While attending UCI, he had the opportunity to perform for Donald McKayle, Loretta Livingston, Lisa Naugle, and Christine Chrest, as well as presenting his own choreography which was chosen to represent the university at ACDFA in 2003 and 2004. Donald's work with Lisa Naugle and John Crawford has produced 3 dance videos that have been presented at the Lincoln Center and in dance video conferences in Yugoslavia, Japan, New Jersey, Michigan, Arizona, and at ADF in Durham, NC. Donald has served as the WV Governor's School instructor in Dance, 2005 - 2008. Mr. Laney has performed with Toneta Akers- Toler, both with the WV Dance Company and Theatre West Virginia since 1993. Besides performing, Mr. Laney also pursues a career as a freelance artist in teaching, choreographing, and costume design and construction. His choreography has been presented by the WV Dance Company, Charleston Ballet, Greenbrier Valley Theatre, Lees-McRae College, Cape Fear Regional Theatre, NC Stage Ensemble, and various high schools around WV. Donald has been a guest instructor in modern dance at James Madison University, UCI, Lees-McRae College, Charleston Ballet, and Jack Britt High School (NC). Costuming credits are numerous. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Huntington Dance Theatre Faculty - Jamie Turner began dancing at age 4 with Dickinson School of Dance, continuing to train with various other studios. She joined HDT in 1995, performing, teaching and choreographing. Jamie assumed the role of director in 2004. She has lived and worked in PA since 2000 where she continued to study at Point Park University and with the Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre until 2006 and is currently living and studying in Philadelphia. Laura Finlay began dancing at 5 with Sally Beacham then moved to Huntington Dance Workshop under the instruction of Dr. Mary Marcuzzi. She teaches and choreographs for HDT, in addition to her duties as Asst Director. In 2001 Laura began a career at the Department of Veterans Affairs. Danielle Lewis began dancing with the Huntington Dance Workshop at age 3 and was an original cast member of HDT’s 1981 Nutcracker, cast as “Clara” at the age of 6. Danielle teaches and has choreographed countless works for HDT’s Nutcracker and concerts and currently works in the Radiology Dept at Cabell Huntington Hospital. Molly Daniel began dancing in 1990 at HDT under the instruction of Mary Marcuzzi. Molly dances, teaches and choreographs for many of the younger students as well as the company. Molly attends Marshall University as a John Marshall Scholar. |
